Utility Scrap Buyers in Alabama

Copper wire and cable, aluminum conductor, transformers, meters, and every grade of nonferrous metal. Three North Alabama yards, our own trucks and containers, and mill-direct brokerage for larger volume.

Utility and Telecom Scrap We Buy

Line clearing, pole replacement, substation work, plant teardowns, and telecom builds. The copper and aluminum are where the value sits.

Highest value

Copper Wire & Cable

Bare bright, number one and number two copper, insulated wire priced on recovery rate, and heavy service cable. The best paying material on any utility job.

Copper grades →

Aluminum Conductor

Clean aluminum conductor, ACSR with the steel core, and insulated aluminum wire. ACSR grades separately because of the reinforcement.

Aluminum grades →

Transformers

Copper-wound and aluminum-wound, whole or drained. Tell us the condition and whether the oil has been handled. No PCB-bearing units.

Meters & Hardware

Meters, insulator hardware, brackets, brass fittings, and the mixed nonferrous that comes off a substation or a pole yard.

Telecom & Coax

Coax, CATv, insulated copper wire, and copper transformers. Priced on how much metal sits inside the jacket, not on gross weight.

Structural Steel

Towers, poles, crossarms, brackets, and the ferrous side of the job. Low per pound, but it moves in volume and it clears the site.

Where the Money Is

Nonferrous Metals Recycling

Nonferrous metals are the ones a magnet will not stick to. Copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium. They contain no iron, and they pay a great deal more per pound than steel and cast.

On a utility or industrial job, the nonferrous is usually a fraction of the tonnage and most of the value. Sorting it out of the steel before it crosses the scale is the single biggest thing a crew can do to raise the ticket.

We buy every grade of nonferrous metal in any volume, from a truck bed of copper wire to a recurring container of mixed conductor. For larger consistent volume we broker straight to mills and foundries, domestic and overseas.

Nonferrous

Magnet slides off. Copper, aluminum, brass, stainless, lead. Pays the most.

Ferrous

Magnet sticks. Steel, cast, towers, poles. Pays least, moves in volume.

Separate piles of nonferrous scrap, copper wire, aluminum conductor, brass, and stainless, with a magnet nearby that will not stick to any of them

Who We Work With

If the job generates copper, aluminum, or nonferrous metal, we can set something up.

Utilities & Co-ops

Line clearing, pole replacement, substation rebuilds, and storm recovery. Containers staged along the route, swapped on your schedule.

Electrical Contractors

Copper wire and conduit off commercial and industrial builds. Regular pickup beats a dozen trips to the yard, and a commercial account simplifies the paperwork.

Telecom & Cable Crews

Coax, CATv, insulated copper, and hardware. We price insulated wire on recovery rate rather than guessing at gross weight.

Municipalities & Plants

Motors, transformers, tanks, conveyors, and the nonferrous that comes out of a plant teardown. Weight tickets and transaction records provided.

How We Handle Volume

Containers, Pickup, and Brokerage

  • Roll-off containers in 10, 20, 30, and 40 yard sizes. Heavy conductor tops out on weight before volume, so we will help you pick a size that actually works.
  • Scheduled pickup weekly, monthly, or on call. Flatbeds and open-top trailers for long material that will not fit a box.
  • Staged containers along a line clearing route or a job corridor, swapped so the crew never waits on a truck.
  • Mill-direct brokerage for larger recurring volume, domestic and international. We export to China, Japan, and India.
  • Documentation as Alabama law requires, plus the weight tickets and transaction records most utility and municipal accounts need.

Utility & Nonferrous Scrap Questions

Do you buy utility scrap in Alabama?
Yes. We buy copper wire and cable, aluminum conductor, ACSR, transformers, meters, insulators, and the steel that comes off utility and telecom work. We have the yard space, the equipment, and the documentation practices these accounts require. Call the yard closest to your operation and ask for a commercial account.
What nonferrous metals do you buy?
All of them. Copper in every grade, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium, Inco alloys, Monel, aluminum bronze, and high temp alloys. Nonferrous metals are the ones a magnet will not stick to, and they pay a great deal more than steel and iron. You will see it written both ways, nonferrous and non-ferrous.
Do you handle transformers?
We do. Copper-wound and aluminum-wound transformers, whole or drained. Tell us what condition they are in and whether the oil has been handled when you call, because that determines how we take them in. We do not accept PCB-bearing units or PCB capacitors.
What about ACSR and aluminum conductor?
Yes. Aluminum conductor steel reinforced grades out separately from clean aluminum because of the steel core. Bring it either way and we will grade it in front of you on a public scale.
Can you handle line clearing and pole replacement volume?
Yes. Roll-off containers in 10, 20, 30, and 40 yard sizes staged along the job, flatbeds and open-top trailers for long material, and scheduled swaps so the crew never waits on a truck. Call before the job starts and we will work out staging and timing.
Do you provide documentation for utility and municipal accounts?
We record every transaction as Alabama law requires, and we can provide the weight tickets and transaction records utility, municipal, and telecom accounts typically need for their own reporting. Tell us what your paperwork requires and we will tell you plainly whether we can meet it.
What is the difference between ferrous and nonferrous scrap?
Ferrous metal contains iron, so a magnet grabs it. Steel and cast iron are ferrous, and they pay the least per pound. Nonferrous metal has no iron, so a magnet slides off. Copper, aluminum, brass, stainless, and lead are nonferrous, and they pay considerably more. On a utility job the copper and aluminum are where the value sits.
Do you buy telecom and cable scrap?
Yes. Coax, CATv, insulated copper wire, copper transformers, and the steel and aluminum hardware that comes with it. Insulated wire is priced on recovery rate, which is how much metal sits inside the jacket.
How far will you travel for a utility job?
Our three yards cover North Alabama, and we run containers and trucks throughout the region. For larger industrial and utility work we travel further. Call the yard nearest your job and ask.
