The title rule trips people up, so here it is plainly.
Title Required
If the vehicle is a current model year going back twelve years, you must have the title in hand. No title, no sale. If someone else is named on it, they need to be present or you need the right paperwork.
VIN Only
Anything older than twelve years does not require a title. We only need to run the VIN. That covers most of what shows up on a trailer around here.
Either way, bring a valid state or federal photo ID. A driver license is best. We record every transaction as Alabama law requires, and we do not buy stolen vehicles. If the ownership situation is complicated, call before you haul it in and we will tell you what will work.
What Your Junk Car Is Worth
Here is the thing people find surprising: we do not care what year, make, or model it is. A junk car is bought as scrap weight against the current steel market. A heavy old sedan can beat a newer small car.
What actually moves the number:
- Weight. The biggest factor by far. Heavier vehicle, bigger ticket.
- What is still on it. The catalytic converter, battery, wheels, and radiator all carry value of their own.
- What has been stripped. Missing engine, transmission, or doors means less weight on the scale.
- The steel market that week. Same as any other ferrous load. It moves.

Lead-acid car batteries have their own scrap value, priced by the pound against the lead market. If you are scrapping a vehicle, the battery can be sold separately rather than going across the scale as part of the car.
