Never Sold Scrap Before?

How It Works

Start to finish, most people are in and out in under twenty minutes.

1

Load It Up

Sort it if you can, since clean material pays better. If you are not sure how, bring it as is and we will show you.

2

Drive Right In

No walking your material across a lot. Pull through, and our crew helps you unload. Bring your photo ID.

3

Watch It Weigh

Everything crosses a public viewing scale. You see the number we see. No hidden weights, no guessing.

4

Get Paid Cash

Take your ticket to the cashier and leave with cash. Not a check, not next week. Before you pull out.

What We Buy

If it is made of metal, there is a good chance we buy it. Here is where most people start:

  • Brass and stainless steel
  • Batteries and radiators
  • Electric motors and starters
  • Farm equipment and machinery

We cannot take hazardous material, anything sealed or under pressure, appliances with freon, or loads mixed with dirt and trash. Call if you are unsure.

Too Much to Haul Yourself?

We do more than drive-up business. If your shop, farm, or job site generates scrap on a regular basis, we can bring a container to you and swap it out when it fills.

Roll-off containers come in 10, 20, 30, and 40 yard sizes. We also run flatbeds, open-top trailers, and box vans, and we tow vehicles, forklifts, and machinery that cannot be driven in. For larger volumes we offer mill-direct brokerage.

Questions Before You Come In

Are you open right now?
All three yards keep the same hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We are closed Sunday. Holidays can change things, so call ahead if you are making a long drive.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Just drive in during business hours. All three yards are drive-through, so you pull in, we help you unload, your material crosses a public scale, and you are paid in cash before you leave. If you are hauling a very large load, a quick call ahead helps us have room and equipment ready.
Which Thornton yard is closest to me?
If you are in Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, or Tuscumbia, the Florence yard on Canal Street is closest. If you are in Rogersville, Killen, Lexington, or Anderson, use the Rogersville yard on County Road 76. If you are near Moulton, Courtland, Hillsboro, or Decatur, the Town Creek yard on Water Street is your best bet.
Do you buy scrap from the public, or only businesses?
Both. Anybody can pull in and sell scrap, whether that is one truck bed of aluminum siding or a regular commercial account with a roll-off container. We have been open to the public since 1974.
What do I need to bring?
A valid state or federal photo ID. A driver license is best. If you are selling a vehicle 12 years old or newer, bring the title. Vehicles older than 12 years only require the VIN so we can run it. We do not accept stolen material of any kind.
How do I get paid?
Cash, before you leave the yard. Your material goes across a public viewing scale where you can see the weight yourself, then you take the ticket to the cashier. No checks in the mail, no waiting.
What scrap metal do you buy?
Copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium, insulated wire, electric motors, radiators, batteries, steel, cast iron, structural steel, junk cars, and large machinery. If it is made of metal, chances are good we buy it. Call if you are unsure about something unusual.
What will you not take?
No hazardous, flammable, toxic, or radioactive material. No mercury or PCB items. Nothing sealed or under pressure, which means no paint cans, drums, gas tanks, oxygen cylinders, aerosol cans, or fire extinguishers. No appliances with freon, capacitors, or compressors. No live ammunition, computer monitors, keyboards, or microwaves. And no loads mixed with dirt, trash, or liquids.

Prices change often. Call your nearest yard for today's price.
